ABOUTThe Gos d'Atura Català

THE GOS D'ATURA CATALÀ. AN EXCELENT COMPANION AND FAMILY DOG.Protector of his family and friend of children.

The Gos d'Atura Català is a shepherd dog that needs some daily activity to be balanced. A medium-sized dog ideal for excursions and trips. Very pretty looking.
They do not shed too much hair, so you can have them at home, although it is advisable to comb them once a week.
Ideal for active people, as it is the best companion for your outings, although later at home they become a real blanket.
They are very versatile dogs and it is good to do joint activities with them, be it herding, agility, truffle hunting, mantrailing, dog-assisted therapy, canicross, etc.

You have to start right, choosing a responsible breeding puppy.

A breeder with good practices will always deliver a socialized puppy. It is very important because in the first 3 months they learn everything very quickly.
That the breeder let us know the parents, as well as the environment where the puppies are raised.
It is a very intelligent breed but the first year it has to be educated firmly and with a lot of empathy. It is important to heed the breeder's advice, as having an educated dog is a huge satisfaction.
In short, they are very special dogs, they are more than a dog, they are one more member of the family, which gives you everything in exchange for very little.

FEEDING

PUPPY
Normally, except for accidental exceptions, the puppy is suckled by the mother until its first 6 weeks of life. It is very important that this is the case for future defenses and its development. From 6/8 weeks, a puppy feed can be introduced as a complement to breastfeeding until 10/12 weeks. The size of the grains of these feed are designed by the manufacturers according to the size of the puppies and the breed. Corresponding the average size to the Gos d'Atura Català. It is essential to keep this in mind to avoid any possible suffocation if the grain is too large.
IN THE NEW HOME
When the puppy moves into her new home, she should receive the same puppy food that she received from the breeder to avoid a sudden change in her diet. A gradual mixing of the feed would be advisable if you want to change brands. The advisable distribution would be 3 servings a day until completing the first 7 or 8 months of life. The food should be puppy food until approximately 8 months. From then on you can change it to an adult and feed it 2 times a day. Pay attention to the composition of the feed when you buy it. The food must contain enough proteins, fats, carbohydrates, minerals such as calcium and vitamins. The proportion of the individual ingredients must also be correct.
We recommend quality feed over low-priced ones due to their obvious better composition.
REMEMBER
Water
Always have clean water at disposal, avoiding, as far as possible, outdoor areas where bees or mosquitoes can proliferate that can transmit diseases or stings.

Forbidden
Some of the toxic foods that you should avoid giving your dog are: avocado, chocolate, cocoa, onions, grapes, raisins, caffeine.

Awards
Of course, we can always moderately reward their good behavior with something to chew or a special cookie for pets.

VACCINES & INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL DEPARASITATION

VACCINATION
The Veterinary Association recommends vaccination according to the disease and the age of the dog as shown in the following scheme.

Keep in mind that the rabies vaccine is not mandatory in all autonomous communities, but it is in other countries. Keep it in mind for trips and / or vacations.

INTERNAL DEPARASITATION
The bitch is dewormed before the puppies are born. The puppies are then dewormed from day 25 and then approximately every three weeks. From now on it would be advisable for puppies and adults to always be dewormed every 3 months. The tablets are inexpensive and can be administered mixed with food or as treats.
EXTERNAL DEPARASITATION
Very important for the prevention of flea and tick infestation. We find solutions in the market in the form of necklaces, pipettes, sprays and pills. Always take into account the manufacturer's prescription for use in young puppies and other exceptions. It is also advisable to prevent the mosquito bite that transfers the Leishmania parasite. We recommend exploring the dog weekly to ensure that these parasites do not adhere, especially in good weather in spring and summer. If we see that the protection administered is insufficient, we can reinforce it with a spray in agreement with our veterinarian.
